Graduate Structural Engineer - Public Infrastructure

 

Become a member of Westwood Professional Services, Inc.'s transportation service team in Fort Worth, TX working as part of a multidisciplinary design team. As part of our team, you will have an opportunity to shape local and regional infrastructure within the community you live. Candidates must have a willingness to perform a variety of structural engineering tasks supporting various project types and project managers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design various structural elements (bridges, retaining walls, and other miscellaneous structures) on infrastructure and private development projects under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Engineer. Manage and develop plans and models using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation OpenRoads Designer. Prepare detailed design calculations and construction drawings for bridges, retaining walls, and other miscellaneous structures. Identify and adhere to governing codes for structural design of various elements. Prepare construction cost estimates/quantity takeoffs. Conduct field reviews and construction inspections. Create and submit technical reports, presentations, exhibits, and design calculations. Perform engineering calculations/analyses. Coordinate with government entities, utility service providers and subconsultants. Manage task assignments for budget and schedule adherence. Review and approve project submittals, RFIs and supports field activities during construction. Provide professional and technical support to multiple Westwood projects. Provide day-to-day support and input to internal and external Project Managers.

Required Experience

  1. Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited college.
  2. Education and/or experience must include:
    • Design experience with applicable codes and standards (AASHTO LRFD, AISC 360, ACI 318, IBC, ASCE 7)
    • Bridge Design
    • Steel and concrete design, prestressed girders, deck, slab, column, and foundation design
    • Theoretical knowledge of structural engineering principles and application to design of various structural elements
    • Applying structural engineering principles to design of various elements
    • Bridge structural modeling and FEA/FEM analysis
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
    • Knowledge of Advanced Structural Analysis and Advanced Mechanics of Materials
    • Structural engineering software, including structural analysis software (STAAD Pro, Midas, or Sofistik), AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Pier Design Software (VBent or Leap Bridge Concrete (RCpier))
    • Required Coursework: Prestressed Concrete Design, Advanced Steel Design, Advanced Finite Element/Structural Analysis, Advanced Mechanics of Materials, Structural Dynamics
  3. Must have passed the FE Exam
  4. Must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
