Substation Drafter

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a collaborative, detail-orientated Substation Drafter to join our exciting consulting firm in the power utility space. The Drafter would be part of our Substation Engineering Group and prepare structural and electrical drawings for energy infrastructure projects. The position would require the drafter to work with engineers and consultants to create drawings for high voltage equipment, structures, foundations, and electrical schematics. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Computer-aided design and drafting of all engineering products and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other drafters to correct discrepancies in drawings and designs.
  • Typical drafting is that of substation layout, sections, structural and foundation details, bill of materials, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Update documentation including but not limited to checklists, drawing lists, conduit schedules, circuit schedules, drawing requests, and project tracking. These documents will mostly be in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Self-checks all work performed to ensure its accuracy prior to turning it over to the supervisor or designee assigned to review the work.
  • Understand & meet project schedule and quality requirements.
  • Complete drawings accurately and quickly.
  • Detailed and quality-oriented.
  • Able to handle multiple projects concurrently and maintain flexibility to changes in work assignments as changes occur in projects.
  • Actively assist in the delivery of a complete project. This may include phone or e-mail, correspondence, attending meetings and other project documents required for project completion.
  • Provide interdepartmental support as required.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Excellent Verbal & Written Communications Skills.
  • Driven for Results, Decision Quality, Priority Setting, Planning, Conflict Management, Informing, Listening, Dealing with Ambiguity & Customer Focused
  • Ability to invite and accept constructive feedback
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Ability to function in a team environment and culture of cooperation and collaboration.

Required Experience

  • Experience in Parametric Modeling Software (Inventor, Creo, Solidworks, Pro/Enginering)

Preferred Experience

  • Associates degree in Design & Drafting Technology, Mechanical Engineer or related field of study.
  • 3+ yrs. of CAD experience, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation experience preferred.
  • Previous experience drafting structural and electrical drawings.
  • General knowledge of Transmission, Distribution, or Substation Projects preferred but not required. 

Compensation Range Minimum

USD $41,600.00/Yr.

Compensation Range Maximum

USD $70,000.00/Yr.
